• Substantive edit: Examines the plot, pacing, characterization, and overall structure of your first chapter. Do you have a solid inciting incident? Do you introduce your main character(s) effectively? Does it have a strong hook to guide the reader into the next chapter? Are the scenes properly structured? (also examines use of setting, conflict, and more)
• Line (or prose ) edit: Examines the quality of the writing craft at the sentence and paragraph level. Improves prose for clarity, word choice, style, point of view, verb tense, author and narrator voice, etc.
• Copy edit/proofread: Checks manuscript for grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors as well as typos and formatting issues. After this final edit, your manuscript will reflect professionalism and give you confidence about its presentation.
